22 PUSH UP CHALLENGE

You may have noticed that there have been quite a few people partaking in the #22pushupchallenge over social media sites such as Twitter & Facebook. I am one of those participants and totally proud of it.

I volunteered to do so, when Al from #OldSoldier part of #Rock2Recovery asked for a volunteer when he, himself was cracking out these press ups.

The vast majority of us in #TeamFortitude have been nominated or took it upon ourselves to contribute to the press up challenge. It seemed rather fitting - raising funds/awareness for PTSD & MBI - as the challenge is happening sadly because, 22 service personnel in the US are taking their own lives DAILY. The same thing is happening here in the UK, but we unfortunately (scarily) don't know the stats like the US do. The suicides are something that can be stopped and avoided with help getting to them at the right time. R2R are doing this.

As well as the challenge, we in the team have pledged £1 a day to our donation pages for Team Fortitude. A total of £22 by the end. Its less than a coffee a day, its one less luxury to have and a vital bit of help for R2R!!

At first I popped my short videos on my Facebook as its a closed account, but as I am nearing the end of the 22 push up challenge journey, I couldn't help but think 'It would reach a larger proportion of people on Twitter; more awareness, more lives saved!

This thought came when The One Show spoke about the challenge one evening... After a bit of a debate and a confidence dip, oh and my team mates giving me a push (!!) I posted on Twitter... A day at a time, a bit behind Facebook.

As Laura & Brie (Chief's of Team Fortitude) said 'Imagine how the soldiers feel and then make a decision on if you post them to Twitter'.

I don't and will not ever know what happens to individuals that my funds have gone to, but the fact that I am helping at a pivotal moment in their lives is amazing. If they (you) ever get to read this... You're amazing, thank you for protecting our country and sacrificing so much. Doing these challenges myself has also helped me more than you'll ever know. Its a privilege to have done so.

Just for a giggle, I am posting this short vid of me trying to do Ross Johnson's ONE HANDED PRESS UPS... Click to see how that turned out...
