Throwback Thursday - Truck Racing

Silverstone is known for Formula One - F1.

Look at that welcome!

 

However, back in summer myself and my family met with our extended family who were racing their trucks in the one and only Silverstone.
It was so exciting!

 Myself & my Fiancé.

 

Silverstone was one of those places that I'd always wanted to go to. (#BucketList) Its iconic.
So when we got offered up we obviously jumped at the chance.

 My Dad and I were buzzing as we have been watching F1 for years and we were finally there, walking along the track that we normally watch on TV and as my cousin was one of the drivers, we got to go in the pit lanes!!!

I don't think I stopped smiling all day.

 Having a rest in one of the stands ready for one of the parades of all the cars.

 

So, yes, it was truck racing. Completely different to F1.

Rather exciting seeing these massive vehicles hurtling around the corners at 100mph (they are capped at that for safety) trying to under/over take each other, bits of the trucks getting ripped off as they collided, the smell of rubber as the wheels locked whilst braking, at speed, going around the bends. Drivers getting angry at each other as they get beaten on the straight so dirty manoeuvres and tactics are played. Its was epic, exciting, amazing, thrilling... I wanted a go!!!

My family have their truck in the race that Simon my cousin races and his brother Craig does all of the mechanical/repair work on the truck with the rest of the guys.

 The RED truck is Simon and Craig's.

 

Last year Simon won in his division. This meant that he went up to the next division. Harder work. Bigger engines on some of the other trucks.

 There were attractions too.

 

After a bad couple of rounds and one of the blokes seeming to have a vendetta against him (!) he started to drive really fast, well and he managed to finish 6th at Silverstone. I think that is blooming fantastic!

The team has continued to race around the country this year.
